Rules for Writers: Chapter 26

In "Rules for Writers" written by Diane Hacker, she explains to us what a text is, how to write a summary based on a text and different assignments that will help us along the way. She explains to us that reading actively, highlighting main ideas/thoughts will give us a better understanding of the text. By following these assignments or steps it will give us a better learning of how to understand a text. Creating a outline of the text will help you understand what the author is trying to get the reader to understand or take away from the text.
I tend to read very fast and sometimes once I get to the end of my reading I forget about the things I read. I think that Hackers insight about annotating and actively reading the text will really help me slow down and engage in my assignment. I am the type of person or student that if the reading doesn't sound appealing to me I wont put forth a great effort to fully engage and enjoy the read but I think that annotating, making an outline and writing summaries will really help me break this bad habit.

Autobiography Info

My name is Taylor Nelson and I am 18 years old and this is my first semester at Santa Rosa Junior College. I graduated from Windsor High School in May of 2010.
I have been playing volleyball for the past 10 years and I will be playing at the JC this fall. I have a older sister and a twin sister, my family is very big, lots of cousins and aunts. I have lived in three states, Oregon, Arizona, and California. Arizona is my favorite out of the three.

I believe that I am a good English student, I have always been a very good reader and I like to read when I have the time. I also like to write when its a topic I am interested in talking about or free writing. I have never taken a online class before but I am excited and it should be very interesting and I hope to be successful in it!
